Multan International Airport

The following project is my first ever professional project. Although done at my career's inception I still fancy it and I still am proud of this project. It was one of the best times at the office where me and a friend of mine were teamed with one of the directors to finish the back logged project in a time of 6 months.

We came into the office everyday at 7 am. Opened the doors, cleaned our desks by using the duster we left last night before leaving the office to brush our shoes anywhere between 11pm to 2 am.

But we finished it and made a presentation to the Prime Minister in 2 months when we got hired and we submitted the drawings for a tender in 5 months, the job was finished in a total time of 6 months when I was offered to continue my work there but I decided to leave the office to join Naheedmashooqullah.

I am a hesitant to post more drawings of the project as it might be seen as a security threat by some people (I dont know why though!)0.

Multan International Airport Will be Completed Soon

Multan International Airport will be completed by the end of current calendar year with an estimated cost of Rs 8 billion, a modern air conditioned cargo complex would also be completed, said Federal Secretary Aviation Muhammad Ali Gardezi. He was briefing the local journalists during the visit of airport building. He was not satisfied with the standard, quality of work in the project and stressed the need for improving the civil works as per international standards.

He said a link road will be constructed from Jamilabad to airport to provide direct access to passengers to the airport and told that we have negotiated with army officers for land acquisition in Cantonment area for laying the sewer lines and construction roads. Gardezi said that Mepco's Superintending Engineer Saeed Ahmed had agreed to establish a grid station near Sikandari nullah subject to the provision of land for this purpose.

The Civil Aviation has agreed to purchase a piece of land for the grid station, which would help in smooth supply of 3.8MW electricity. The new airport project was initiated in 2008 and was to be completed in 2012 with an estimated cost of Rs 4 billion, which was to be invested by civil aviation but now the cost escalated to Rs 8 billion.

Local journalists also highlighted the flaws in construction work and drew the attention of the Federal Secretary. On a question Brigadier Bilal Hameed (Retd), a project director in head quarter admitted that control tower could not be functional on schedule because its contractor ran away and he moved to the court against Civil Aviation. Now, he had lost the case and we have re-allotted the contract to a well reputed firm. However, he did not agree with the questioner that the cost of airport was escalated by 100 per cent.
