Stallion fell in ditch but saved in Multan

MULTAN: November 3rd, 2011.

Rescue 1122 officials in the district saved a horse after the animal fell into an open sewer in Multan.

According to eyewitnesses, the animal fell into a large open manhole near Vehari Chowk and was rescued by an emergency team of Rescue 1122.

Eyewitnesses said that the horse was turning the corner while pulling a tonga when it fell into an open gutter.

The tonga owner Masood called Rescue 1122 and a team helped him pull the animal out of the 30 ft ditch after over two hours.

Water and Sanitation Agency (Wasa) deputy director Mohammad Mushtaq told reporters that the authorities cover all the deep gutters in the city but the covers get stolen.

“This is not Wasa’s fault. The gutter was covered last month,” he said. “Wasa cannot be held accountable if people steal manhole covers in the district,” he added.

Locals in the area protested against the authorities and said that they had filed repeated complaints for open sewers to be covered but this had not been done.
