Italy releases Rs 850 million to upgrade Multan city

MULTAN (February 22 2010): The government of Italy has released the grant of Rs 850 million to upgrade the city of Multan on the design of Rome on the wish of Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani.
This grant would be spent to provide basic facilities including health, electricity, renovate the historical building and places, mosques, shrines, safety of cultural heritage, renovation of ancient gates of the internal city, and widening and construction of roads and turnabouts.
In this connection, a committee has been formed on the directions of Prime Minister to check the pace of work on the project, which consists of Federal Secretary Petroleum Kamran Lashari, Federal Secretary Culture Moeen-ul-Islam and Federal Secretary Housing and Construction, Dr Javed Siddiqui.
This committee would pace up work on the project by co-ordinating with the Italian government, Italian Ambassador to Pakistan and the Italian experts on the project. Meanwhile, another team of Italian experts was expected to arrive Sunday, in this regard
