World Space Week 2013 in Multan from Oct 4 to 10

The Pakistan Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO) will mark the World Space Week (WSW) 2013 in 11 major cities of the country from October 4 to 10.
The cities include Karachi, Islamabad, Lahore, Quetta, Faisalabad, Peshawar, Multan, Larkana, Bhawalpur, Gilgit and Abbotabad.
An official of SUPARCO informed that the World Space Week is the largest public space event in the world and that it is an international celebration of science and technology, and their contribution to the betterment of the human condition.
Government agencies, Industries, schools, museums, planetariums and other institutions in over 100 nations participate in WSW. The theme of the WSW 2013 is `Exploring Mars, Discovering Earth'.
It was pointed out that the United Nations General Assembly declared in 1999 that the World Space Week will be held each year from October 4-10.
These dates commemorate two events October 4, 1957 Launch of the first human-made earth satellite, Sputnik 1, thus opening the way for space exploration October 10, 1967. The signing of the Treaty on Principles Governing the Activities of States in the Exploration and Peaceful Uses of Outer Space.
SUPARCO, as a national space agency, has been regularly conducting WSW activities each year to increase awareness of space technology and to promote its peaceful usage amongst students and the masses in Pakistan since 2005.
This year, SUPARCO has extended WSW activities throughout Pakistan with the partnership of key educational institutions.
It will hold an Inauguration Ceremony on October 4 at SUPARCO headquarters to formally commence World Space Week 2013 celebration in Pakistan.
The chief guest for the ceremony will be Professor Dr Atta ur Rehman, Former Chairman of the Higher Education Commission (HEC).
A specially designed mobile education bus equipped with multimedia will leave to create awareness of space through lectures, multimedia presentations and video shows in towns and villages of Sindh.
Space Family Fair will be held on October 5-6 at the PAF Museum here. The fair will include different colorful activities like sky observation, exhibition, philately stall, kids arena, water rocket demonstration, space movies, space studio etc.
The Water Rocket Competition will be held on October 9 at the SUPARCO headquarters.
SUPARCO, in collaboration with the PIA Planetarium Karachi, has also arranged Sky Simulation shows and lectures for school students on October 7, 8 and 9.
