PAL to promote literature in Southern Punjab

Multan—The branch of Pakistan Academy of Letters in Multan will help promote literary activities and Pakistani literature in Southern Punjab. Multan is one of the most important city of the country with its own distinct culture, language and,literature.The establishment of PAL’s regional office in Multan will help in circulation of PAL’s publications in southern Punjab which are not easily available here. Like the branch of NBF in Multan, an office of PAL will help develop the literature of Pakistan in general and Saraiki literature in particular.
A history of Saraiki Literature and research work on the mystic poetry of Khwaja Fareed may be compiled and published by PAL. These views were expressed by Editor English Pakistan Academy of Letters Islamabad, Urdu and English poet and prominent writer Khurram Khiraam Siddiqui while presiding over a session in his honour by Bazm-e Sukhan Multan in Mutan Arts Council Multan.He introduced newly published special issue of bi-annual English literary Journal Pakistani Literature (selection 1947-2010) edited and compiled by him. He said that the issue features the English translation of poetry and fiction by 160 Pakistani writers from Urdu, Punjabi,Saraiki, Sidnhi, Pushto, Baluchi, Brahvi, Kashmiri languages and original English writings. He said that he was born, educated in Multan and he started hi professional career as a teacher and writer here.
He said that he especially organizes literary gathering in Islamabad for visiting writers from Multan. He also introduced a literary magazine Solidarity International edited by him including the English writings of the writers of Pakistani origin. He read hi popular ghazals and Nazms for the audience. He thanked the administration of Multan Arts Council and director of Bazm-e-sukhn Multan for organizing the function to honour him. Chief Guest of the Function a senior Urdu poet from USA said that PAL should also take steps to help overseas Pakistani writers in promoting Pakistani Literature.
