Gilani urges expediting energy projects with Iran and Rasht as Multan Sister Cities

Gilani urges expediting energy projects with Iran PDF Print E-mail
pm-najjar.jpgISLAMABAD, Sep 29 (APP): Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani on Thursday called for expediting energy projects already agreed upon in cooperation with Iran to help the country meet its energy requirements. He was talking to Mostafa Mohammad Najjar, Interior Minister for Iran, who called on him here at the PM House. Gilani recalled his recent visit to Iran when he conveyed his greetings to the Supreme Leader, the President and the First Vice President of the Iran.
The Prime Minister said wide-ranging discussions were held on matters of mutual interest including reconciliation process in Afghanistan on which the Prime Minister reiterated Pakistan’s support for Afghan-owned and Afghan-led initiative.
The Prime Minister also reiterated his vision to further strengthen bilateral relations in all spheres, particularly trade and commercial relations. He said irritants in the way must be removed.
The Prime Minister said the two countries had decided to constitute a mechanism at the level of the Foreign Ministers for regular exchange of views to take bilateral cooperation to a new height.
The Prime Minister also appreciated Iran’s assistance for the flood victims in Sindh and especially thanked Interior Minister Najjar for help in the reconstruction projects in flood affected areas.
The Prime Minister said Pakistan wishes to take friendly and fraternal relations with Iran to new heights as there was tremendous goodwill between the peoples of the two countries that share historical, social and cultural ties.
Interior Minister Najjar assured the Prime Minister that Iran would make all efforts to execute and complete various projects in the pipeline.
He also conveyed Iranian leadership’s readiness to support Pakistan in flood relief, reconstruction and energy related projects to ensure peace and cooperation in the border areas of the two countries.
He said unity between Pakistan, Iran and Afghanistan could contain threats to these countries and the region.
He said in addition to US $ 100 million as flood relief assistance, an Iranian cargo plane with essential items has already reached Pakistan and another cargo plane would be landing Karachi today.
Interior Minister Najjar would visit Karachi to personally hand over the relief assistance from Iran.
During the Prime Minister’s visit to Iran a decision was taken to declare Rusht, the capital of Gilan province and the city of Multan as sister cities. The Prime Minister invited the Governor of Gilan during which the decision to declare Multan and Rusht sister cities will be finalized.

52 Hsitoric Places of Multan to be Preserved on Pattern of Fez City

The Federal Archeology Department announced that 52 monuments of Multan will be preserved and rehabilitated on the pattern Morocco’s city Fez.

Remember Fez is not sister city of Multan like Room City and Konya City whic are Multan's Sister Cities
The preservation will be done as per prime minister’s five years special development package for Multan which he announced in 2008. Sources said a PC-II for survey, documentation and feasibility studies to upgrade the monuments had been prepared.
Sources said institutions were carrying out systematic and scientific studies of the cultural heritage of Multan. Studies will focus on the identification of structures that can be preserved apart from those that have already been declared protected under laws.
The documentation will include photographic and graphic data, architectural drawings and history of interventions, geo-technical studies of all monuments, including the causes of deterioration. Studies will also include proposals to remove encroachments and shabby structures in the vicinity of the monuments.

Italy releases Rs 850 million to upgrade Multan city

Rome and Multan Sister Cities
MULTAN (February 22 2010): The government of Italy has released the grant of Rs 850 million to upgrade the city of Multan on the design of Rome on the wish of Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani.
This grant would be spent to provide basic facilities including health, electricity, renovate the historical building and places, mosques, shrines, safety of cultural heritage, renovation of ancient gates of the internal city, and widening and construction of roads and turnabouts.
In this connection, a committee has been formed on the directions of Prime Minister to check the pace of work on the project, which consists of Federal Secretary Petroleum Kamran Lashari, Federal Secretary Culture Moeen-ul-Islam and Federal Secretary Housing and Construction, Dr Javed Siddiqui.
This committee would pace up work on the project by co-ordinating with the Italian government, Italian Ambassador to Pakistan and the Italian experts on the project. Meanwhile, another team of Italian experts was expected to arrive Sunday, in this regard

    Multan Pakistan and Konya Turkey are sister cities

    Multan and Konya declared twin cities or Sister Cities and tie is called twining between two cities.
    Both cities are historic and Sufi-ism prevail in both. Both has signed a document strengthening the relations in areas of culture, arts, economy, education and sports.
    The document reads that periodical programs will be organized in Konya and Multan cities every year related to Shah Shams Tebriz
    Multan is known as the City of Saints and Sufis due to the large number of shrines and great Sufi saints from the city. The city is full of bazaars, mosques, shrines and ornate tombs. It is located in a bend created by five rivers of the Punjab province
    The tomb of Hazrat Maulana Jalal ul Din Muhammad Rumi (RA), the great Persian Sufi poet commonly known as 'Ya Hazrat Mevlâna' also exists on the soils of Konya. The tomb of the great saint, who is the founder of the Sufi Mevlevi order (known for the Whirling Dervishes) is located in the heart of Konya city where he spent the last fifty years of his life.
    Yet another great Sufi saint Ibn Arabi visited Konya in 1207, and made it as his eternal abode.

    Rome City and Multan City made Sister Cities

    Multan and Rome both are oldest living cities on earth and have ancient history both signed a document are regarded as Twin cities or Sisiter cities due to their similar and rich archaeological and cultural heritage, and historical linkages.

    Rome: “We must honour the past heritage not only to be preserved in museums but also as a thriving and
    living entity with all its spiritual and traditional essence,” the Italian ambassador said. He stressed the need to work together to promote the archaeological and cultural heritage of the region and added that Italy is keenly interested in establishing an archaeology department at Bahauddin Zakaria University.     Multan: Under this agreement, historical status of Multan will be highlighted and all its monuments will be given complete protection, he added. Tareen said that better planning was being made to achieve the objective. He said that government was committed to infrastructure development and well-being of the people. He added that development process was also in progress in Multan so that its people do not travel to other cities to avail different facilities (2009)
