Chief Collector of Customs (Central) Lahore Rozi Khan Burki has said the
business community should point out any harassment, victimisation or
excesses by the customs staff and the government would not allow anyone
to create troubles for importers and exporters.
Addressing local businessmen, exporters and importers here on Sunday, he assured the business community and said stern action would be taken against such elements creating troubles for them. He said the Customs Department has ready to meet the demands of the business community for expanding their business activities at Multan Dry Port. He said Trustees of Multan Dry Port and hundreds of other local businessmen were clearing their consignments from Karachi, Lahore and Peshawar dry ports which is a sheer injustice to the Multan Dry Port.
He urged the local businessmen to expand their businesses and give a boost to trade activities in the region. He stressed the need for interlinking the Multan Dry Port with railway track to promote trade activities. He said that railway was the cheapest means of transportation of cargo. He suggested that local businessmen should develop bonded warehouses to facilitate others.
Speaking on the occasion, Collector of Customs Multan Dr Sarfaraz Waraich said the Multan Dry Port covered Multan, Dera Ghazi Khan, Bahawalpur and Sahiwal divisions but its imports and exports were miserably low. He said the Pakistan Customs had introduced latest system to facilitate importers and exporters they could send their consignment and they could get clearance through online payments.
He warned the custom staff not to delay the clearance of cargo nor blackmail anyone and they should provide better facilities in the ambit of law.
